Long ago and far away, back when Daddy wasn't dying of three consecutive heart attacks and an uncompromising lifestyle of cigarettes, whiskey, and fried food, back when i used to go home for the holidays (now, wherever I am IS home-for-the-holidays), I wrote a song about rambling 'round the Pensacola Bay; when I got back West, it became the San Francisco Bay; when I started living hand-to-mouth out of my car it became a nasty rock'n'roll song; and when I started roaming the entire Coast it dropped down into a heavy blues number, where it stayed all the way to Barcelona...
And then one day while Mercury was in retrograde, I remembered something Hempfairy had told me way back when we crashed her car into the side of a mountain (due to chloroseptic bottle rolling under brake pedal), and afterwards found my car ticketed and broken into and stereo stolen (due to negligence of "friend" who was supposed to watch it), and finally when someone chucked a rock through her back windshield while we slept at a pull-off on Hiway-9 near Felton: she resolved all pain and fear with six words, "All bad things come in threes."
End of story, 'nuf said.
lyrics
Been on a cloud
Of uncertainty
I'm comin' down
To the harsh reality
I wanna climb out of this poverty
I wanna find out what's goin' wrong with me
Cuz no doubt no doubt no doubt
All bad things come in threes!
I got no work
The city towed my guitar
I sunk so low I even stole
A twelve-string guitar
I wanna know why
Life's got it out for me
I wanna cry
Someone say a prayer for me
Cuz no doubt no doubt no doubt
All bad things come in threes!
I met a fine girl
I took her out for drinks
I spilled the wine, my card's declined
And I threw up in the sink
I wanna know why
Life's got it out for me
I wanna cry
Someone say a prayer for me
Cuz no doubt no doubt no doubt
All bad things come in threes!
Baby, take a look at me,
Can't you see I've got a dream
Yes, I'm gonna be a star,
Just like we all are!
But now I feel so down and out
That it makes me wanna shout
Don't close that door,
I need you more
Than ever, ever, ever, ever, ever before!
YEAH!
I wanna know why
Life's got it out for me
I wanna cry
Someone say a prayer for me
Cuz no doubt no doubt no doubt
All bad things come in threes!
