A borrowed banjo and a bastard melody: "As I walked down south with a cotton-mouth, hoping to escape from the Lost Highway...."

Locked in a dungeon in the house of little teeth a mere fifteen months after I lost the dad I never had, I built Pepperland amidst domestic drama of unlikely tales of an alleged golden fire dragon, and only when I pierced an unsuspecting five-string with a frenzied front-porch hoe-down did I discover a fragment that became the basis for a round-and-round song nobody liked, not even me. After taking it on a trip through the hinterlands of my imagined childhood, I reconstructed the arrangement in Aaron's basement at the top of the hill, which pleased Frère Joseph greatly, but English isn't his first language anyhow, and I still wasn't satisfied. I tore it asunder and, some eighteen months after Mama went away, at the keys of a dusty busted old reed organ, under the influence of hashish and Aretha Franklin, I finally realized what it was I'd been trying to get at this entire time.
