Here Comes Love

from As Nature Intended by Joshua A F Cook

about

Nicholas Burke and I had committed ourselves to the fungal throes of midnight passion late one January night, with an unlikely pair we encountered at Primo's 1964, and the whole affair turned into a much longer, stranger trip than any of us had bargained for, as we jammed and rocked and rolled around in a state of hysterics, my hand grabbing for an exposed water pipe next to the feather mattress, as the Stones bade us spend the night together, and we adhered to their masterful incantation. Like a spore taking root in mycelium, the thought crept in: what might I add that would be so compelling, so amusing, perhaps a touch titillating, to say to these fair travelers with whom my night had become intertwined?

I worked on the problem for quite some time, with no immediate solution in sight. Lady Feather, a white girl from Detroit, won the teen dance craze against an Oreo from the OC, and came to dominate my outlook for four tumultuous months ensued, until my free will rebelled and I extricated myself from her clutches once and for all. The only avenue open before me was to occupy a music room at SSU and install Pepperland. Hence began in earnest the first misadventures. Hope lingered, but could we really have learned to love one another? Or was it hopeless?

And then one day, after the arc of travels had seen me safely back to the BART platform, I saw the light once again, tiptoeing out the gates of the Muni terminal. Here was my muse, astride a ray of sunshine. Here was the answer to the original question....

lyrics

All night long, all I see:
The town rolls up its ornamental streets
I'm down on my luck and dead on my feet
You, babe!
How you shine like a light!
Hey!
Here comes love!
Calling:
Do-do-DOO!

All you got is all I need:
I got no stock in property
I got my guitar a car and some weed!
You, babe!
How you shine like a light!
Hey!
Here comes love!
Calling:
Do-do-DOO!

Don't let go holdin' my hand:
Givin' you up is not in the plan
We're gonna fly off to never never land
You, babe!
How you shine like a light!
Hey!
Here comes love!
Calling:
Do-do-DOO!
